Privacy Policy
Last updated August 5, 2026
This site is a small, independent side project — no accounts, no forms, no data you send us directly. Here's exactly what happens in the background when you use it.
Data you send us
None. There's no account to create, no form to fill in, no mailing list to join anywhere on this site. Your selected location is simply picked from a preset list of Icelandic towns — it's not based on your device's location.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand traffic in aggregate (visit counts, referrers, country-level location). It doesn't use cookies and the data isn't tied to you personally. See Vercel's own privacy policy for details.
Weather data
Forecasts and historical data come directly from Open‑Meteo (api.open-meteo.com). Your browser requests this data directly — we don't send Open‑Meteo any personal information, though your IP address naturally reaches them as part of any web request.
Local storage
To make repeat visits load faster, we cache the latest weather data and your selected location in your browser's localStorage. This never leaves your device to reach our own servers — we don't run a database or backend that receives it.
Donations
The "Bribe the weather gods" button opens Stripe Checkout in a new tab. We never see your payment details — Stripe handles the transaction, and their own privacy policy applies to it.
Advertising
On the English version of this site (icelandicweather.com), we use, or plan to use, Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalizing them based on your activity. Where required (including for visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), a consent prompt lets you choose whether to allow personalized advertising, and you can change that choice at any time.
Cookies
This site doesn't set its own first-party tracking cookies. If advertising is enabled, Google and its partners may set cookies as described above, subject to your consent where required.
Your rights
Iceland is part of the European Economic Area, and EU data protection law (GDPR) applies here. Since this site itself doesn't collect or store personal data directly, most such requests concern the third-party services listed above (Google, Vercel, Stripe, Open‑Meteo) directly — reach out to them, or contact us if you're not sure where to start.
Children
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. The date at the top reflects the most recent change.
